|
The SOS Children's Village Bo, is the second in Sierra Leone and is situated in the Southern Region. It has been in operation since February 1983 but was officially opened in March the same year, by Dr. Hermann Gmeiner. The village comprises 10 family houses, the village director's house, a guest house, 3 staff houses, multi purpose hall, open rondavel, administration and service area including a small clinic, 2 workshops and a play ground.
The Village has a capacity of 100 children. Presently, there are 96 children (47 boys and 49 girls) of different age groups who are living with their SOS mothers in the family houses. The village director as a father figure is responsible for guiding and directing both the SOS mothers and children. He provides security, builds trust and shows love to the children as any other father would. During the unstable periods of raging civil war between 1995 and 1999, the SOS Children's Village Bo had to be evacuated several times and all other associated SOS facilities had to be closed down.
