The first construction works of the SOS Youth Hostel began in 1976 and was completed in 1978. Since then the facility has been in operation. This facility consists of 5 houses, which caters for adolescent SOS boys and girls, and a youth leader house. It is located about four kilometres from the SOS Children's Village in a district called Malama. There is also an additional facility for the Youth Educators, and a kitchen where the preparation of the daily meals is done.
The aim of the Youth Hostel is to serve as a home for this category of youngsters, who at the age of 14 leave their family houses and move towards a more independent life. Here, they manage their household allowances, shop, cook, clean and do their own laundry. They are supervised by one male and one female educator who help manage the day to day activities of the hostel. The blocks are divided equally between the different sex groups present. The youths stay in the hostel until they are 19-20 years old. They are then either resettled or moved on to a transit facility.
