The SOS Home for Physically Challenged Children

The SOS Home for Physically Challenged ChildrenDue to the high number of children suffering from polio in Sierra Leone, SOS Children's Village Freetown set up an SOS Hermann Gmeiner Home for physically challenged children, in the former SOS Youth House for Boys in 1988. This Home provided places for about 25 children and was officially opened on 2nd October 1988.

The home consists of 1 building with 20 rooms, a common living room and kitchen, sanitary facilities, store rooms and small office. There is also one building with physiotherapy rooms, open rondavel, playground and a house for the director.

Presently, the home caters for 26 children, both male and female. Social activities in the form of outdoor treats and quiz competitions are organised for them. Apart from social treats, special counselling and therapy are also organised for them.
