Hermann Gmeiner Basic School

The reason for the creation of the primary school Hermann Gmeiner in the country is related with the illiteracy tax, estimate to the return of 67% of the population, and with the insufficience of primary schools in the Guiné Bissau. The history of primary school SOS Hermann Gmeiner is identical of Village I. SOS, therefore they had been constructed and inaugurated at the same time the 2 of June of 1995 for the President of the folloied Republic of the General Secretary of the SOS KDI, Mr Werner Handl.

The school initiated the functioning in 1994 and admitted children of the 6-7 years, that started in 1ª and 2ª classrooms. In the following year we increase the escolaridades and we complete the chain of escolaridades in 1997/98 for 1ª 6ª classroom, with a capacity to receive 420 pupils.
