SOS Family Strengthening Programme |
|

Started in 2005, the programme's aim is to support families and communities to develop their capacities to effectively protect and care for their vulnerable children. In The Gambia, the programme targets 500 children bellow 18 years from various areas of the Western Division who are either orphans, living in an orphan household or infected or affected by HIV/AIDS.
Upon the identified family needs, the programme supports the children's access to essential services (nutrition, health and hygiene, shelter, education), provides counselling to the whole family and supports the care-givers to improve their income generating activities (through trainings and financial support). At the same time, the programme works closely with communities, involving them in the planning and implementation steps of the programme and helping them develop their capacities to identify and find ways to meet the needs of their vulnerable children. Led by one programme coordinator, the programme is implemented with the support of community volunteers and partners.
