The foundation stone for a second SOS Children's Village in Bassa, Juah Town (a major city out of Monrovia) was laid in 1988 and the construction works were near to completion in 1990 when the seven-year civil crisis began in the country. However, renovation on the village has been completed and has started operation.

The SOS Kindergarten Juah Town has been operating since September 2000. It has a capacity of 75 students, four classrooms and ancillary rooms, four teaching staff and a principal.
The Kindergarten also operates morning sessions for the children, which aim to help them make a smooth transition from family to school life. A toddlers' class has also been added for SOS children from age two and more. |

Juah Town was one of the areas hardest hit by the seven-year civil war. The inhabitants are mostly farmers and are barely subsisting. Children of this community are obliged to do farm work or attend bush schools known as the "Poro" for the boys and "Sande" for the girls.
Due to the lack of good schools and the low standard of education within the community, the Hermann Gmeiner International school was established and has been in operation since September 2000. It has a capacity of about 315 students. |
