The SOS Children's Village |

The construction of the SOS Children's Village in Freetown started in 1973. In August 1974, construction work was completed and the Gmeiner. The first 45 children to enter the village came from a country. Today, there are 13 family houses with a capacity for 130 children, an administration and service area, a home for retired SOS 2 guest houses, 2 youth workshops, and a playground. |

The Kindergarten has been in operation since September 1978. it comprises 4 classrooms, a class room for Montesorri education, a multi purpose hall and a playground. The Kindergarten is an integral part of the SOS Children's Village. It has excellent educational facilities and well trained and dedicated educators. Currently the kindergarten has a total capacity of 100 children comprising of those from the SOS Children's Village as well as the surrounding communities.

SOS Children's Villages started the construction of an SOS Hermann Gmeiner Primary School in Freetown because of the lack of good schools in Sierra Leone. After the completion of the construction work, the primary school was opened in 1976 and handed over to the government for them to run. Later in 1988, this school was given back to SOS by the government. |

The first construction works of the SOS Youth Hostel began in 1976 and was completed in 1978. Since then the facility has been in operation. This facility consists of 5 houses, which caters for adolescent SOS boys and girls, and a youth leader house. It is located about four kilometres from the SOS Children's Village in a district called Malama. There is also an additional facility for the Youth Educators, and a kitchen where the preparation of the daily meals is done. |

The SOS Home for Physically Challenged Children |
|
Due to the high number of children suffering from polio in Sierra Leone, SOS Children's Village Freetown set up an SOS Hermann Gmeiner Home for physically challenged children, in the former SOS Youth House for Boys in 1988. This Home provided places for about 25 children and was officially opened on 2nd October 1988. |

The Medical Centre / Clinic |
|
The Medical Centre, located within the premises of the Children's Village, comprises of four rooms which include an emergency ward. The main aim of this facility is to provide medical services for health problems of all the children and employees of the village in addition to helping members of the surrounding community. There are two part-time nurses who run the centre and a doctor comes in once every week. |

Vocational Training and Production Centre / Printing Press |
The VTC is situated within the SOS Complex at Lumley, on the outskirts of the capital city. It was officially opened on 8 September 1985, as a Production Center. The center comprises 3 buildings with workshops/offices, a class room for the departments: computer-based design, silk-screen printing, lithography, offset printing and letterpress machine printing, and a staff house for the center's director. It has a capacity of 15 trainees. |
