The construction work of the first SOS Children's Village and SOS Kindergarten began at the end of 1982. In June 1984, construction work was completed and the first 15 children moved into their new home. The SOS Children's Village, was the first SOS projects to be constructed in Cape Verde. It is located in Assomada, a small town in the mountains, approximately, 30km from the capital city, Praia, on the island of Sao Tiaga. On 4th October, 1984, the SOS Children's Village was officially opened. |

The SOS Youth facility has been in operation since 1990. The facility comprises a youth house containing five rooms, a common room, kitchen; youth care programme. They are encouraged to share the responsibility for the household like food preparation, washing, room cleaning, and saving among others. They begin step by step making their own friends.
They are always guided by the village father and the youth leader. The aim is to prepare them for life as a self- sufficient adult. |

The SOS Kindergarten has been in operation since July 1984 and has a capacity of 100. The facility includes 4 classrooms, 1 Montesorri classroom, administration, kitchen and a playground.
The kindergarten is an integral part of the SOS Children's Villages. It is well equipped with excellent educational conditions, trained staff and didactic materials. These help the children develop various social, intellectual and manual skills. |

The carpentry workshop started on 1st June 1998. It was included in the SOS Projects . Two professional carpenters and 6 SOS reintegrated youths make up the staff at the carpentry workshop. It is headed by the maintenance of the children's village. The workshop now offers training to youths from the community. Presently, there are seven youths from the community who are undergoing training at the carpentry workshop. |

The medical facility is located on the premises of the SOS Children's Village. It is a small building and is open to only the SOS Children. The facility includes, 1 orthopaedic bicycle, 1 screen, 2 beds and 1 desk. A male nurse comes three times a week to attend to the children. |
