On 22 December 2008 in the midst of over 200 distinguished guests from various works of life the village director of SOS Children’s Village Makeni received an award for excellence and the best and most effective Non Governmental Organization in the northern region of Sierra Leone.

26 October 2008 was not only a big day for SOS Children's Village Makeni, celebrating its official inauguration, but it was also an historical day for SOS Children's Villages Sierra Leone, which good work was officially recognized and praised by Sierra Leone's President, Mr Ernest Bai Koroma. All Makeni was celebrating that day!

When Allie went into the shop to buy his new commercial motorbike, he was one of the happiest men that day. This former SOS youth from Sierra Leone, now 28 years old, has struggled and worked hard to reach his goals. But he can now be proud to be a self-reliant young man!
