A fun and sporty day for SOS Kindergarten pupils from Bakoteh

4 April 2009 was the Kindergarten sports day for all the children attending the SOS Kindergarten in Bakoteh, The Gambia. Most of the 216 children registered in the morning and afternoon Kindergarten shifts gathered at the SOS Children's Village Bakoteh sports field to engage themselves into fierce competition... well, much more fun than competition to be realistic!

The story of a little dog going to SOS Children's Village Basse

'Woofy' is a travelling dog! He'd already taken the car towards Brussels airport, the plane to go to Banjul and his travel was not yet over! He still had to take another car, cross the Gambia River by ferry and drive another six hours to meet his new family in SOS Children's Village Basse. But luckily, Woofy was not travelling alone! Plenty other stuffed friends, dolls and toys joined him on this long journey!

The Gambia Gets its First 35 Graduated Social Workers

On 12 December 2008 in Bakoteh, the Gambia, SOS-Kinderdorf International Regional Office for North West Africa certified 35 students who underwent a one year intensive training programme in social work. Several key institutions and government bodies attended the graduation ceremony held in SOS Children's Village Bakoteh and showed their support to the newly graduated.

Memories, Memories...
Have you ever noticed there's always someone taking pictures during major events as well as snapping the daily lives in a children's village? What happens to all these pictures? In the Gambia, the old ones, taken with reflex cameras sure ended up in the archive files of the SOS Children's Villages administration, for communication purpose and records. But now, they've all moved from their dusty boxes to the SOS Children's Village Bakoteh family houses they belong to, bringing a lot of excitement and giggles in the village!
