village

SOS Children's Village Makeni is approximately 3 kilometres away from the main town of Makeni. Its European architectural design makes it so unique that some residents of Makeni refer to it as the little Europe of the Northern Sierra Leone region.

Like in any new Children's Village, the children are still all young, which makes the village life even livelier and noisier! In operation since July 2007, the village was officially inaugurated in October 2008 by the President of Sierra Leone, Mr Ernest Bai Koroma, in the presence of Mr Richard Pichler, Secretary-General for SOS-Kinderdorf International. The village, which is composed of 12 family houses, a village director's house, an aunts' house and administration and service building has a capacity of 120 children.

By the end of 2008, SOS Children's Village Makeni was home for 82 children (43 boys and 39 girls).
