In operation since July 2007, the village was officially inaugurated on 23 October 2008 in the presence of Mr Richard Pichler, Secretary-General for SOS-Kinderdorf International.
Being a new Village with only young children, SOS Children's Village Canchungo still shows all the excitement of a new beginning. Like in many other Villages, boys are particularly fond of football, but here girls are also very much into it.The village, which is composed of 12 family houses, a village director's house, an aunts' house and administration and service building has a capacity of 120 children. By the end of 2007, 60 children (27 boys and 33 girls) were living in SOS Children's Village Canchungo.
